The Mona Lisa painting by the world-class painter, Leonardo da Vinci, is arguably the most talked about work in the field of art. It is an oil painting on a poplar wood panel. Its history is shrouded in mystery and amongst the unknown facts surrounding it, I bring you these;

i.) It took Leonardo da Vinci 14years to complete the painting. (1503-1517)
ii.) The delicate dark veil that covers Mona Lisa’s hair is sometimes regarded as the mourning veil.
iii.) When you zoom-in the image of Mona Lisa, her left eye revealed a single brush stroke in the eye region.
iv.) In the picture, Mona Lisa doesn’t have eyebrows nor eye lashes. (only one hair is discovered)
v.) The left finger was not completely finished until after Leonardo da Vinci’s death.
vi.) The blanket covering Mona Lisa’s knees also covers her stomach.
vii.) The sense of overall harmony achieved in the painting, especially apparent in her faint smile, reflects Leonardo’s idea of the cosmic link connecting humanity and nature.
viii.) Leonardo influenced the fashion in which artists dressed their subjects.
